Does even Maurice Greene, himself, really think he's the world's fastest man?
Judging by the headlines in the American media, it looks as though they are trying to fool themselves! Sounds like jealousy on the part of American journalists. Ever since Bailey won the One-to-One Challenge, many Americans have not been able to accept that someone other than their own nationality is considered the greatest in their field. In this case it is the field of sprinting.
Rueter's headline "Greene Confirms Position as World's
Fastest Man" is poor journalism by Julian Linden. 10.06 seconds, headwind or not, is no confirmation of anything significant.
Take a look at Greene's comments after the Melbourne Grand Prix: "I am in world record shape right now and if the wind had turned around I believe
that was the world record."
What is Mr. Greene thinking? And people have complained about Bailey being overly cocky! Leave your beliefs in your head and perform instead.
Now Greene did perform, mind you. 10.06 seconds in a headwind is quite fast and he should be proud of that, but if even he thinks he's the world's fastest man then he'd better run in 9.84 seconds!
After all, the world's fastest man, Donovan Bailey, already has!
