SAO LEOPOLDO, Brazil (Donovan Bailey WWWsite) -- Donovan Bailey, running
on a sore left foot (Plantar Faciitis), was beaten by Chile's Sebastian Keitel on Sunday in
a 100-metre race in southern Brazil.
Keitel, South America's 100-metre record holder, won in 10.10 seconds
to Bailey's 10.13. Brazil's Claudinei Quirino da Silva was third in 10.21.
The race was held at Vale dos Sinos University in Sao Leopoldo, a
town some 50 kilometres from Porto Alegre.
Bailey
attributed the loss to tenderness on the ball of his left foot.
"Definitely," he said when asked if that hurt his
performance.
Donovan is undergoing extensive physical therapy for the
Plantar Faciitis and expects the problem to be resolved shortly.
Bailey received $80,000 for his appearance.
