RIO DE JANEIRO (Donovan Bailey WWWsite) -- Donovan Bailey made good on his vow to win the 100-metre dash at Brazil's
Grand Prix track and field competition, the first IAAF Grand Prix of the season. Despite his win, he was still disappointed with his performance.
"I'm really not happy with my time," Donovan said.
Bailey was still suffering from back pains when he ran the race.
"I just wanted to get off the blocks and through the race," he said.
His pains aside, Bailey took first place in the 100 metres with a time of 10.19
seconds. Fellow Canadian Bruny Surin of Montreal took second with a time of 10.22 seconds. American Vincent Henderson took
third with a time of 10.27 seconds.
Bailey said he was working on overcoming his injuries with his trainers.
"I expect to run faster than I ever have before as soon as I'm healthy," he said.
Bailey said he did not want a rematch with Chilean sprinter Sebastian Keitel, who beat him in the 100 metres in a meet last week
in southern Brazil.
"Sebastian Keitel has never beaten me before and he will never beat me again. I don't need any revenge. I'm a world record
holder and I have nothing to prove to him," he said.
